25 Things to Buy Before You Move into Your New Home

Moving into a new home is often a stressful experience. Amidst the hustle and bustle of your move, the last thing you want to do is to settle in for your first night in the house of your dreams – only to realise that you’ve forgotten to buy bedding! With that in mind, we have compiled a list of the top 25 essential items which you should tick off your list before you move into your new home.
The bathroom is likely to be the room in the house which needs the most work. Unfortunately, it’s often overlooked by first time buyers. Here are some items which you cannot afford to live without:
Cleaning supplies – Particularly important when moving into a house, you might want to give your bathroom a quick clean before you use it.
Storage (shelves or units) – You’re going to need somewhere to store all of your toiletries!
Bath towels – For you and all of your family.
Mirror – If your new bathroom doesn’t already have one, a good-sized mirror can give the impression of a bigger space and a more complete look.
Shower curtain – Essential for privacy, and a chance to really design your bathroom in your image.
Kitchen / Dining Room
It can be very easy to forget one or more items for your kitchen and dining room. Make sure that you have at least the following, so that it is easy to cook dinner for the first weeks whilst you become familiar with local shops:
Dishware – Plates, bowls, mugs and glasses.
Utensils – Spatulas, whisks, knives and other silverware
Appliances – A microwave and a kettle are musts! If you’re really pushing the boat out, why not invest in coffee makers, blenders and toasters too?
Equipment for washing dishes – Either dishwasher product or sponges, soap, towels and a drying rack.
Coasters – Important if you don’t want your new table to succumb to damage!
Living Room
It’s probably going to be the room where you spend most of your time, so you should really invest in some essentials to make your living room your own.
Technology – Now is the perfect time to invest in some technology, such as TVs or sound equipment, to show off your new home to your guests.
Rug – A rug shaped to the style of your room can help to make it homely and warm.
Artwork – Whether it be posters or an expensive piece, some artwork can bring life to your living room walls.
Seating – If your new home is not already furnished, you need to start thinking about the size and space in the room and invest in some chairs and sofas accordingly.
Storage – Whether it be shelving or a dressing cabinet, you need some extra storage in your living room to store your essentials in a way that doesn’t detract from the style of the room.
Beyond a bed, here are a few more things you shouldn’t forget about for the bedroom:
Hangers – This is an easy one to overlook, but essential nonetheless.
Lighting – You need a good lighting solution, which can be adjusted according to the time or day and your mood. For example, bedside lamps are ideal for a bit of late-night reading.
Bedding – Pillows, mattress, duvets, blankets and sheets should all be covered!
Fan and / or heater – This is going to be a life saver, particularly if you move in at the high-end of either of the seasons.
Space Saver Bags – A great solution for storing your off-season clothing.
