If you’re wondering what to do this Australia Day long weekend in Perth, here’s ten fun and affordable things the whole family can enjoy!

1. Lesmurdie Falls 
Head to the hills and spend your Australia Day basking in the serenity at Lesmurdie Falls, just a 30-minute drive from the CBD. Pack a picnic and enjoy exploring throughout the National Park. You can take in the sights from the viewing platform, or a longer trial takes you to the base of the waterfall.

2. Snorkeling at Mettam’s Pool 
Grab the snorkels, bathers and a towel and head to Mettam’s Pool in North Beach for Australia Day. With clear, calm protected waters from the nearby reef, the spot is perfect r for snorkeling and spying a fish or two.

3. Zig Zag Scenic Drive
If you’re yet to take a venture to the Zig Zag Scenic Drive in Gooseberry Hill, Australia Day is the perfect time for it. The zigzagging roads are half the fun, while the views are icing on the cake. The lookout offers panoramic views of the city skyline and if you time it right, you’ll be able to see the fireworks from Perth’s Australia Day Skyworks. The fireworks are scheduled for 8:30pm but we recommend arriving early to secure a spot!

4. Fringe World
Perth’s Fringe World Festival kicks off on Australia Day with a range of shows bursting with fun and creativity. There is everything from comedy performances, theatre, cabaret and free community events for all ages.

5. Dog-friendly picnic 
This one is great for every member of the family, including your four-legged pals. Pack a lunch and head to a dog-friendly beach with the family. With a sunny 28 degrees forecasted*, it’s the perfect day to splash about in the water. Just make sure to slip, slop, slap!

6. Get educated 
Take the family out to discover more about the rich history behind Australia Day. You can head to the Art Gallery of Western Australia or the Western Australia Maritime Museum in Fremantle, which both offer a wealth of information about WA’s history for all ages.

7. Kings Park
Head to Kings Park this Australia Day and take a walk through the stunning Botanic Gardens stretching 17 hectares and displaying 3,000 species of native flora. The traditional 21 Gun Salute fires at noon on Australia Day from King’s Park State War Memorial, while the Fraser Avenue precinct offers a viewing platform for the Australia Day Skyworks.

8. Kalamunda Water Park
Enjoy the friendly community spirit at Kalamunda’s annual Australia Day Pool Party. The event kicks off from 9am at the Kalamunda Water Park, offering plenty of entertainment and fun for the kids. With a 50 metre Olympic pool, two tube slides and a kid’s play area, there is plenty of fun to be had.

9. Lane Pool Reserve 
Jump in the car for a day’s expedition to Lane Pool Reserve in Dwellingup.
Set yourself up for the day alongside the river’s edge and enjoy the peace and serenity that surrounds. The river is popular for swimming and canoeing, while the surrounding area is great for bushwalking or mountain bike riding. This is the perfect Australia Day for the adventurous at heart.

10. Australia Day Skyworks  
A list of Perth’s best Australia Day activities wouldn’t be complete without the city’s annual Skyworks show. Laying claim to the largest Australia Day festivity across the country, the day is packed-full of music, dance, art and food. The night comes to an end with the firework spectacle along the river, which kicks off at 8:30pm.
